Platinum Credit Card

Spotlight On A Reader - Jim

I am going to attempt to profile individuals from various backgrounds and professions to give you all an idea of the different types of people who are black cardholders, and that they’re aren’t just celebrities. This week’s profile comes from a Lawyer named Jim

What is your name: Jim

How old are you: 43

Where are you from: Oklahoma

Where do you live now: Oklahoma City, OK

Describe what you do for a living and how long you’ve done it: I am an Attorney and have been practicing for 20 years.

How long have you been a Centurion card member: One and a half years but AMEX cardholder since 1986.

Are you happy with the card, if so what are your favorite aspects: Very happy. Travel arrangements are free and the upgrades are nearly automatic at top hotels every time. The frequent flyer club memberships, usually Gold level, come in very handy for upgrades. Also, the concierge service is useful even for the most bizarre requests. The best aspect of all, however, is the instant credibility you receive from people who recognize the card and how you are treated afterwards.

Roughly, how much do you spend per month/year: Usually between 200k and 300k annually.

Have you ever been treated differently because you have it: Almost every time. There are only about 17k of the cards worldwide and with the economic downturn in the US, that number will decrease I suspect.

Do you ever use it to buy small stuff just to show it off, be honest: Smallest purchase was lunch one day for 12 bucks. And I do use it to show off. One reason to have it. Best example was tossing it out on a hotel desk at checkout just to show up the pompous woman next to me who was using a platinum or gold card. She looked at me and lost much of her pompousness. And the clerk took care of me first and left her standing there fuming. Some people just don’t look like they should have one but when they do, it is funny to wonder who they are and how they got one.

What is the largest ticket item you have purchased with it: Payment of taxes is the biggest item. Did use it for down payment on a
condominium recently.

What is your most expensive month if you remember: It has not occurred yet but April 08 will be it. About 60k I am guessing.

Have you used the concierge service, if so what for, and have you used it for anything ridiculous: Oh yes. Wimbledon tickets, Ellen show tickets, Playstation last Christmas. That is about it.

Keep an eye out for the next installment where I will profile an individual who is rumored to be the youngest invited Centurion member ever. You can keep up-to-date on the profiles by subscribing to the RSS feed.

Hi Jim,
Its a coincidence I am reading this because I live in Edmond… Are you dating anyone? See ya around the city!

JANE

P.S.–I go to Flips and sit at the bar quit often. Mostly on Thurs and Fri afternoons. If I am not at Flips I can be found at Pearl’s Graveside sitting on the patio or Martini Lounge in Edmond.

Oh please.. Tyler Dikman? He runs a dell resale business.. just like hundreds of other dell resale businesses.. I don’t get what’s so special. Anyone who can put 250+k of orders on their platinum card can get a black card… any 18 year old kid who owns a business (and they are out there.. lots of them) can do this.. Tyler is nothing special. He mas been milking this for a long time now..

Not to mention he is involved in the very poorly developed failing Flick.IM start up..

He is also best friends with known spammer and degenerate John Chow.

Please find another “celebrity”

Now I ain’t saying she’s a gold digger…

Just wear a red hat so he knows it’s you Jane.

Now I just need someone to go volunteer to take a picture of the lady in the red hat sitting on the patio. Any takers?

Actually, I am famous (in my group of friends) for wearing red shoes! But dont get me mixed up with my friend Lindsey, she slso wears red shoes. I carry either a red patent leather purse or a Gucci tote.

Thanks to all cardholders who volunteer!!

As a *new* sole proprietor, any one know if I can apply for a personal GOLD card and use that for my business expenses. Hoping sooner or later they will add up to an annual amount enough to meet the 250k requirement for the Centurion card.

Figured Id post here since I wasnt sure how to contact the admin, without doing a little research on the site.

Thanks

That should be fine. Just remember to keep track of them for taxes at the end of year
