Platinum Credit Card

Site Updates & Advertising

It is hard to believe the site has been up just shy of a year. What started out as a small hobby has turned into a larger site than I had imagined, explaining one of the reasons amex-black.com has recently started to out grow its web hosting. I apologize if there has been downtime or long page load times. I am hoping to have everything migrated over in the next 2 weeks to a new service, which is still TBD while I work things out. In addition to new hosting, I have grown tired with the current design of the site and I am going to be redesigning it during the move to the new server. It should hopefully look a lot cleaner and be a little less buggy. I didn’t realize until today that this site had been rendering terribly in IE6 browsers. I have fixed the issue, but I am surprised none of you said anything before.

When the redesign rolls out I will offering up several new advertising spots. The site is currently receiving, and has been for several months, over 1200 visitors a day, and 60k page views a month. If you are interested in advertising, please contact me at advertise@amex-black.com, and we can work something out.

In the meantime, check out this guy who just received his black card this week.

Like many of your 1200 daily visits, I found my way here when Googling info on the Centurion or “Black Card”.

If I had to guess your vistor make-up, I’d say some of your visitors are employees of merchants trying to learn more about the card they were just passed at work. Many are working people and Internet marketers who whack the Amex for enough to cover business expenses and qualify for the card.. and some segment are truly rich peope who spend 2mm+ a year for personal recrerational stuff on their Amex. You should bear that in mind as you do the redesign.

If I were you I’d include a section for people to post large charges they’ve recently made and a ‘Tattle’ tab where merchants and onlookers can chime in and say they saw spending action. You could tie it to Google maps. You could draw an interesting tally of charges and learn what sorts of stuff people are spending money for and how that differs between geographic regions. It could be fun.

Lots of potential for this site to be sure. One thing to look out for. If you get too successful AMEX will likely threaten you or take you to UDRP for using a domain name with their TM in it. Could happen anyway.. You may want to register another ‘black card’ style domain and migrate if it’s not too late from a ‘lost Google-rank’ standpoint.

Lastly, it would be great to hear less about the Jeremy Enke’s and Mr. Patels of the world and more about the folks who actually deserve this card. 1-2mm in income per year is not blowing anyone’s hair back and anyone can pay their Google adsense bill from marketing and whack-up 10k a day.. That’s not real spending. That’s trading paper.

Blowing 1mm+ on stuff you don’t need payback on. That’s the people this card was built for, that’s why people want this card. So they can be like those people. There are enough of ‘those’ folks out there without hearing about another “Internet Marketer” who pays for his ad-spend on the platinum in order to be the youngest guy on the block to qualify for Black. If you want people to advertise on your site, you might want to update much more often then you currently do.

@Real Money, that’s already happened with Amex. I should be in the clear now though. I do have another domain that is a clone of this site, if I need to start using it.
