Visa Black Card

No Longer Invite Only

I have heard from enough sources that I am confident in saying that the AMEX Black is no longer an invite only card. From what I am hearing, if you spend enough money on a Platinum card (perhaps the Platinum Business Card) the $250k requisite, you can simply call up your American Express customer service rep (CSR) and ask to move to a Centurion account. Of course you’ll have to pay the 5K joining fee, and 2.5k annual fee, but you can get one nonetheless. Results may vary slightly, but from everything I have read/heard this seems to be the case now.

Oh, and if you’re ever looking for a good site on credit cards in general, not just AMEX, you should check out flyertalk.com. Happy New Years!

I was told that you can qualify with any Amex card (except Corporate), not just a Platinum.

I just searched on the AMEX for “Centurion” and got this result:

You searched for: “centurion”

If you search “Centurion”, you should have gotten more than what you got. But If you search “Amex Centurion”, “Amex Centurion Carta”, or “American Express Black Card”, you’ll find what you’re looking for.

Also, the card has never been invite only. It’s been open to the public, but your spending habits and credit score are under tremendous scrutiny. So much as a bill ($100.00) not paid back at the end of the month for one month could change your spending power my hundreds of thousands, and maybe even millions for the next 10 years. That’s an extreme case, but you get it. It’s not unlimited per say, but it does have it’s perks and you can spend what you want, so long as you have the means to pay it back. Which may be why it’s only offered to celebrities and political figures. Or those are the only cases we actually hear about.

The Amex Centurion card started in 1999, of which time, my father received an invitation to their Centurion card because he had 3 other accounts with them, and a flow through rate that was doubled of their 250k requirement. The next year, he put me on as an account holder. The card does have it’s rewards, I receive gift certificates to Saks and Macy’s about once every three months or so, and at the Airport ticket counter, I buy business class and get an automatic upgrade to first class with no additional charges. Also, when I go to Abercrombie & Fitch or Victoria’s Secret or New York & Company at the Pecanland Mall in Monroe Louisiana, or an Armani or Gucci or Macy’s, I get to shop without another customer in the store, and I usually get treated to champaign while I shop in Tiffany’s and Saks.

I’ve read about paying the $5k initation fee, and the $2.5k yearly fee, but seriously, it’s pocket change to people that have the card.

I have found their customer service to be flawless, I’ve never had a complaint that went unresolved right away. This is one of only two cards that I carry, and it is by far the most used.

The Centurion Card is invitation only. You cannot apply for the Card, regardless of what you read here…

Of course the Amex Centurion is Invitation Only!

Spend USD250k PLUS on any Amex Charge card, call the Amex CSR and ask them to invite you into Centurion.

Of course, now it has become even more expensive.
Last I heard is about a spend rate of USD375k PLUS

[...] Black Card no longer invite only [...]

The Centurion Card is definitely not an invite only, I know of several people who have just called up Amex CS and demanded the card after having a substantial history with Amex and carrying platinum for at least a year.

….and spending only 100k a year on their platinum card, and not the required 250K

you must have the credit history and income to prove u can pay it off with the month, as u can spend upto 12million in 1month is you have it set..but most are unlimited

It is not possible to get the card without meeting the 250k minimum spending limit. My father has had the platinum card for 6 years and been an american express member since 1969, with a credit score of 826 and substantial assets and he was told to call back when he had spent 250k.

You are correct. The 250k minimum spend is non-negotiable.

Anyone who tells you otherwise does not actually have the card, and is inventing information.

Most recently, last week, a long-time cardholder with 30-40k each month was turned down with a 246k spend. They don’t bend these rules.

The only rules that have been bent in recent years are:
1. The previous requirement that the 250k spend be on one card. Now you can combine spend on any charge card which you are the primary account holder (credit cards not allowed).
2. The previous requirement that the 250k spend be on either a personal or a business card (corporate cards not allowed). Now you may be able to fall just short of the 250k on a personal, but have 100k on a business (sole-proprietor, which you are the primary holder), and they will override to admit you.
