How To Get A Black Card
Now that you’ve read the site and know what the black card is about, you’re probably asking yourself how do you get one. Well step one is to get an American Express card of some kind, a lot of people get the Gold or Platinum, and start using it. Remember, you have to have a certain annual spend with AMEX to get the card, oh and it wouldn’t hurt to be making near a million or more a year. That’s motivation isn’t it?
For everyone else who doesn’t and won’t have one, you should concentrate on trying to build your credit history and increase your credit score. Not to put in a shameless plug, but check out another blog in this network specifically about credit scores. Anyone who is in debt, about to buy a home, or looking to raise their credit score should definitely check out my other site. Yea, but why would anyone want one? I spend more than 250k/yr with the platinum card and the associated gold cards (there is no 250K limit). I’m far from rich - just use it for all business purchases. The fee is already high. We already get next day replacement, have never hit any kind of credit limit, have access to admirals clubs, concierge service and so on - in fact, all of the benefits listed for the black card except golf with Tiger Woods.
Why would someone want the black one. Unless I’ve missed something, all it proves is that someone has $2500 a year to waste.
And, what’s with this blog? Why are you so interested in “Luxury Cards?” I think it’s a shill.
I’m just curious as to what your credit score has to be for you to obtain an Amex Platinum card or a regular Amex for that matter. I realize that i’m a few years away from a black-card, but I just want a regular Amex card for now.
Hello, there is a “back-door” way to obtain a black amex. You dont need to spend $250K, but it takes up to 8-10 years to achieve.

Wayne–can you tell us any more about the back door? We charge a lot each year and normally pay in full, but not nearly the annual $250k minimum that people often discuss. We commonly receive offers to upgrade to the Amex Platinum card, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I work in for Armani in london. We have a customer who lives in Birmingham and comes to us occasionally. Really nice and very handsome man. Always very shy when paying and on one occasion he hid the black card and gave it to pay. Really down to earth. His name Amir Azadi. Cute!!
T, read my post under “reader’s with a black card” my opinion is Amex wants the membership fees associated with the card but, they are still “pickey” on whom they invite. My wife doesn’t want to upgrade, due to the fees associated. I am still debating the issue with her. Happy Holidays!!
I was curious to read the previous posts … I had the AMEX Platinum for almost 10 years .. and I believe it has all the features of Centurion card without paying the $ 2500 annual fee and the $ 5000 initiation fee. As a mater of fact I know many wealthy people in the middle east who run their business with AMEX Gold and they are unwilling to upgrade to a Platinum although they can easily. I guess this goes to one basic fact .. if you are born rich you don’t need to show that you are rich by holding a $2500 card .. but if money comes to you at an old age .. you try hard to gain people’s respect by showing off material things … one of them is the AMEX black !
Are the requirements the same in Canada? Do any well known cartoonist’s have a black card? Sadly, I am a struggling cartoonist at this point

To be honest these cards Gold Platinum and Black are not that good anymore, Amex have really gone down himm there customer service and the benefits you get are really not worth the fees you pay.
There’s no secret to getting a black card: you need to sign up for an Amex Platinum Charge Card and spend 250K a year. After your first year, after you reach the 250K limit, call Platinum Services and request to be transfered to Centurion (Black Card) Services to process an application.
Annual income is not factored in — just your purchase and payment history on your Platinum card.
Hundreds of Centurion/Black cardmembers do not make close to a million a year. Instead, they are business owners who place all of their business purchases on their Platinum Cards. Otherwise they are professionals who travel a great deal for business and spend a lot entertaining clients. If you own a small business, place all bills and major expenses on your Platinum card, then issue linked gold cards to your employees for their business expenses, reaching the 250K limit is not difficult.
Improving your credit score is never a bad idea, but it’s not really relevant to this topic.
