Platinum Credit Card

History of the American Express Black Card

The history behind the AMEX Black card is somewhat mysterious. Reports of an invite only credit card from American Express started surfacing as early as the late 1980s. There was even a Wall Street Journal article mentioning a rumored credit card specially for AMEX’s high end client el.

After years of rumors, AMEX brought this card to public fruition (in terms of its existence but not availability) in October of 1999 when the American Express credit card dubbed “Centurion”, or whatever refers to as the AMEX Black card, was released. This card is currently in the hands of only a few people, but this numbers seems to be increasing fairly quickly. This ultra status card is the card of choice for about 10,000 people.

hey,

What the difference between the plastic and the titaium, i just got the black card but its plastic … but i feel its second best after reading online?

you’re lying, you don’t have the card. All the plastic cards have been converted to metal already.

I dont really think this card is only in the hands of a special few. Where i live i see them every day, i work at a game store in CT. so i think they are more common than people think.
