Bernard Madoff’s Amex Platinum Statement
I came across this on Flyertalk forums and I figured I should definitely post it. Here are scanned copies of Bernard Madoff’s January 08 Business Platinum statements. I haven’t read the whole thing but it doesn’t seem too crazy, other than the fact his whole family was a supplemental cardholder on his account. Definitely worth a look if you are into the whole scandal and want to read about it.

A lot of charitable organizations in Palm Beach were invested with Maddoff. Pretty Terrible. I was there this Winter right after he was charged and it was noticable that people were hurting. On a side note, the business lounge at the Ritz Carlton Palm Beach is called the “Golden Parachute Lounge”. Pretty funny, I would bet they have changed the name by now… http://twitpic.com/bh0u7
So recently I received a replacement Centurion card in the mail (my old one was again compromised)…they appear to no longer be beveled around the edges…bummer!

…I thought he had a business platinum as well? Where did you read he had a bus. centurion (although I would’nt doubt it)?

Hey mate, page 28 of the report, it details all the cards. There are 3 business cent cards, the rest plat =]
RE: beveled edges, Same here in Australia. our replaced card no longer has the beveled edges, it is shaped like a generic credit card, just not plastic. I guess they got enough complaints about them not fitting in certain machines? who knows.
I like how you can see the full card number details in there… How long until the first dumbass tries to use it to purchase something online?

Wanted to add something funny that happened to me few days ago… I am a simple Amex blue cashback holder and last day was paying a 170 euros bill in a little town in Italy… well the clerk watched the card and said wow, it’s beautiful, i’ve never seen a card like this, it must be very exclusive… It was so funny!
However, as I was saying in another comment, except for bigger cities (like, for example, Rome, Milan or Florence) Amex is still not accepted widely and is not common among credit card holders.

do you mind me asking what was the nature of your emergency? I’ve always wondered what I’d use global assist for…like if i get arrested do they come bail me out? dunno?
The threshold for getting a Centurion changed on Aug 20. It is now no longer a questions of spending $250K. I spent some $400K last year, was “extended an invitation for a business centurion.” Personal centurion - no way! The threshold is not disclosed. The evalution is not disclosed. If there isn’t an invitation placed on your account, you won’t get one. As simple as that…

JW - That might be the case. BUT - before Aug 20 you could get a personal cent if you spent $250K on your business platinum. Not anymore! Check your facts…
F and JW - you couldn’t get a personal cent if you had 250k spend on a business platinum. Not even “before aug 20″. If you had 250k on a business platinum you could get a business cent. A personal was more strict, and had to be personal charges on a personal card.
But all that is irrelevant, because nowadays you can’t get either kind of cent for any spend. It’s “by invitation only” and you cannot call in (to the infamous special number) to ask for an invite - they aren’t doing that anymore.
They want to reduce the numbers of new people, as it got too crazy over the last year. Member numbers have doubled since 2007, so they decided just to close it to new people altogether.

Gives you an insight into how some people live though, some spending 30k/month on just pretty random, non-business spends.
